We consider health and wellbeing an essential aspect of social - and indirectly also ecological - sustainability. Health and wellbeing are amongst others dependent on external stress situations but also lifestyle choices, which can favour anxiety, depression, disconnection and disease. Mindfulness-based and medically proven mind-body practices are designed to learn to become aware of and familiarize with our bodies and minds from moment to moment, which opens up a space for learning about ourselves and our lives, including more clarity about what is helpful and less helpful and what is necessary and what is not so necessary to support our invidiual condition, from moment ot moment. This can have measurable positive effects on our abilities to cope, counter and reduce stress, and can help cultivate a lifestyle that nourishes a greater balance of body and mind as the foundations of healing and wellbeing. While not fully researched, increased wellbeing (Ferrer-i-Carbonell & Gowdy 2007) and mindfulness (Ericson et al. 2014, Kabat-Zinn 2017, Donald et al. 2018) might also contribute to increased socially and ecologically relevant awareness and commitment, and thus may effect overall sustainbailty, too.
To support health and wellbeing, the MindEnvironment Project offers courses in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), which are clinically proven and taught around the world to thouthends of people to assist them in dealing with chronic stress, pain, anxiety and during post depression periods.
